Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish once again impressed in an England shirt on Wednesday night, which prompted a comment on social media from international teammate Declan Rice.
Grealish started during England’s 4-0 home win over Iceland in the Nations League and Gareth Southgate played him in all three of the Three Lions matches during the international break.
The 25-year-old left-winger was once again a creative threat for England, showing a fearlessness on the ball and adding the kind of desire to dribble forward that he does for his club.
It’s been a long time coming in the eyes of Villa fans, but Grealish now looks like he’s going to be around the England squad for the long-term and he’s made a good case for himself to be a regular starter as well.
Grealish posted a message on Instagram after his international display, with West Ham and England midfielder Rice responding.
Rice, 21, is an ever-present in the side under manager Southgate and he got himself on the scoresheet against Iceland with a header.
Grealish’s remarkable start to the 2020/21 season continued during the international break with a few dazzling England performances and impressing on the elite stage should only make him even more confident in his own ability.
The skilful attacker is the talisman at club level for Villa and it’s a great sign for Dean Smith’s side that he continues to get better.
He’s scored five goals and supplied six assists in just eight appearances for Villa this campaign, which is what forced Southgate’s hand in the end to drafting him into the XI and it turned out to be the right move.
