West Ham United have been linked with a number of names, as usual, going into the January transfer window.

The Hammers are seldom out of the news when it comes to acquiring potential new players.

The likes of Gary Medel, Gary Cahill and James McCarthy have all been linked recently and it remains to be seen if any of those players follow in the footsteps of Samir Nasri by joining the Manuel Pellegrini revolution.

Whoever West Ham bring in this month, it’s unlikely the club will pull off a better piece of business than securing Declan Rice to a new contract.

The Irishman put pen to paper on fresh terms and will now remain at the club until 2024.

West Ham appear to have turned a corner since the appointment of Manuel Pellegrini.

The club have spent a lot of money on new players, and one gets the feeling they will be busy in January.

But they’ll have to pull something special to top Rice’s new deal – which is a major coup for the club.

Rice has been in brilliant form for the club this season after a difficult first few weeks.

For a while it looked like he might leave to join one of the Premier League’s big boys, but the Irons have kept hold of their precious talent.

Rice’s versatility, composure and maturity set him apart from other players his age and it was vital for West Ham to secure his future.

He plays beyond his 19 years and many are tipping him to become the next captain after Mark Noble.

His potential is clear for all to see, and that’s why his re-signing will probably top any other deal the club do in January.
