West Ham United are reportedly ‘in contact’ with Maxime Gonalons over a possible transfer this summer. That is according to a report from France Football. They suggest that the AS Roma star will not be signed permanently by recent loan club Sevilla.
Instead, a new loan move is being planned and England is the player’s preferred destination.
West Ham are mentioned as a potential location and it would not be the first time the Hammers have tried for Gonalons.
Last summer, CalcoMercatio suggested that West Ham made an £8.9 million bid for the Frenchman. Gonalons, who has struggled to settle in the Italian capital since joining from Lyon in 2017, eventually joined Sevilla on loan instead.
Unfortunately, the midfielder’s season was besieged by injury. The 30-year-old suffered a fractured fibula in September before fracturing his ankle In November, restricting him to just 10 La Liga appearances this season.
But fully fit, Gonalons can be a force to be reckoned with. West Ham were seemingly willing to part with serious money for him last summer. After his injury-plagued season, that would be an error. But if a loan deal is on the cards, giving Gonalons a chance could prove excellent business for West Ham.
