West Ham-linked Jesse Lingard claimed ‘regular football is the most important thing.’

He also revealed that being left out of England’s 26-man squad for Euro 2020 left him feeling ’emotional.’

The attacker was included in the 33-man provisional squad, however, was one of seven players left out of the final squad.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Manchester United ace claimed that whilst he’s devastated it’s all about supporting the team.

Lingard has been linked with a summer move to east London this summer. It is thought West Ham are stepping up their efforts to sign the attacker after his Three Lions heartache.

When talking about England and regular football, Lingard said: “It was emotional. You’re sad and you’re down, but you’ve got to respect the manager’s decision.”

“Regular football is the most important thing for me. After going on loan and getting a good run in the team, you started to see the real me, with the goals and the assists.”

TBR View: West Ham in the driving seat after admission from Lingard

After admitting he wants regular football, West Ham are in the driving seat to complete a transfer for Lingard.

His claims hints that he sees his future away from Old Trafford. The Red Devil have been linked with a raft of attacking players this summer, posing question marks over the 28-years-old’s future.

And with the squad already packed with bags of talent in the final third, it’s hard seeing Lingard breakthrough.

Meanwhile, the opposite is true with the Hammers.

There seems to be a lack of attacking quality in the first team squad after last term’s struggles. Despite joining in January, the England international finished the season as the club’s top scorer.

Meanwhile, there are reports the club want to sell players to offset their summer spending.

A raft of players have little to no future at the outfit and will need replacing. Andriy Yarmolenko, Felipe Anderson and Manuel Lanzini are all looking to move on this summer.

The lack of quality, inevitable departure of fringe players, and Man United’s attacking thrust makes a move for Lingard likely.
