West Ham: Fee for striker agreed; German forward linked; Argentinean deal close

As usual, most of West Ham’s transfer news emerges from Jack Sullivan on Twitter, the son of David, co-owner of the club.

The big news was regarding a move for AC Milan striker Carlos Bacca. Rumours had suggested that a deal for the Colombian was as good as dead due to his wage demands and desire to play Champions League football, but Sullivan now claims that a fee has been agreed and that Hammers will know whether or not he will be coming to London by Saturday evening.

Whilst undoubtedly good news, there remains question marks over whether or not he will come. Clubs such as Arsenal and Atletico Madrid have been monitoring the striker, and he may well be tempted to turn down the East London club in the hope of receiving a better offer, particularly as Champions League football appears to be a sticking point for him.

Sullivan also gave an update on another striker, Jonathan Calleri. With a move said to be close to completion, Sullivan confirmed that the deal was all tied up and now only dependent on the application for a work visa for the striker.

With no caps to his name, that could provide complications in the deal for the Argentinean, but the Hammers are confident that they can obtain a visa to allow the striker to join on a season long loan, most likely with a view to a permanent move, within the next week.

The two moves show that Slaven Bilic and co. are taking action to add depth to their front line as they seek to compete in Europe and domestically as they move in to the Olympic Stadium.

Should either of these deals fail, a move for German striker Mario Gomez has been rumoured in the questionable source of Tribal Football. The news comes after Gomez confirmed that he would not be returning to former loan club Besiktas due to the ongoing political situation in Turkey.

Having scored 26 goals in 33 games for the Turkish side last season, and with Fiorentina reportedly keen to cash in on the German, he would bring a proven track record and bags of experience to the Olympic Stadium, having spent most of his career at Bayern Munich and the former German Footballer of the Year would be most welcome, potentially as a cheaper option, should a move for Carlos Bacca fall through.
