West Ham fans want to see Ben Johnson start vs Rapid Wein

West Ham fans have called for Johnson to start vs Rapid Wein.

David Moyes’ Hammers face their first Europa League home game of the season tonight.

Unfortunately, though, the Irons face a selection dilemma at right-back.

Both Vladimir Coufal and Ryan Fredericks are ruled out as Rapid Wein travel to London.

That leaves the right-back spot up for grabs and the supporters want to see Ben Johnson step up to the plate.

Why Does One Of The World's Poorest Countries Sponsor Arsenal?

The 21-year-old is a solid young player, yet he hasn’t had the game time he’d have wanted so far this season.

Johnson was an unused substitute against Dinamo Zagreb last time out in this competition.

His only minutes so far this season came against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup win at Old Trafford.

Now, though, he’s in line for a second start, this time at home in Europe.

Johnson faces stiff competition in his favoured right-back role.

Both Coufal and Fredericks are fantastic options and Johnson’s ability to play at left-back may work against him.

He played on the left at Old Trafford and for West Ham’s U23’s he even deputised at centre-back (Transfermarkt).

Against Rapid Wein, though, he’s finally set to start on the right of the back four.

The fans will be well behind their man and with a strong performance, Johnson could make a push to be Moyes’ deputy right-back.

It would take an awful lot of work to usurp Coufal as the first choice for the role.

However, a string of displays could see Johnson climb above Fredericks in the pecking order.

He has a chance to do that tonight, at least, with the fans calling for him to start.
