Fabian Balbuena lasted just 45 minutes in the FA Cup defeat to West Brom on Saturday – and some West Ham fans on Twitter fumed at the defender for his performance.
The Hammers ended up losing 1-0 at the London Stadium against Championship leaders West Brom and the two teams could end up swapping divisions next season given their current form.
David Moyes watched his team put in an abject display at home and it epitomised the rut they are in at the moment.
Conor Townsend scored the winner in the 9th minute for visitors West Brom in the cup and West Ham manager Moyes was fuming at half-time.
He made a triple substitution for the starting of the second-half, with Balbuena, Carlos Sanchez and Pablo Fornals all taken off.
A selection of West Ham supporters on social media singled out Balbuena for major criticism for his first-half contribution.
The 28-year-old was guilty of being extremely sloppy in possession and looked off the pace of the contest.
He is a Paraguayan centre-back that appears to have completely lost his best form in a Hammers shirt and looks a shadow of the former authoritative leader he was.
Here are some West Ham fans on Balbuena:
Felipe, needs to be far more brave and commanding out wide.
Snodgrass, lacks quality but tries to make up for it with work rate. That’s all we ask, work rate.
Balbuena, in a slump, in and out the team can’t be easy but needs to toughen up.
Fredericks, needs to man up.

Balbuena taken off which is right as it was one of the worst displays from footballer you’ll see.

Balbuena should be off shocking performance

I have never seen a worst first-half performance from a centre-back than that from Balbuena. And don’t even get me started on Carlos Sanchez..

Balbuena has misplaced pretty much every pass he’s made. They’ve either gone out of play or been given straight to the opposition 🙄

Balbuena hasn’t been good since last season should’ve sold him https://t.co/C2vP5w4oAT
