West Ham slipped to a poor 2-0 away defeat to Cardiff City on Saturday – and many of the club’s fans were not thrilled with the performance of defender Ryan Fredericks.
The Hammers were beaten once again away from home, as Junior Hoilett scored in the first-half and Victor Camarasa added a second after the interval to give the hosts the points.
It was another case of one step forward and two steps back for Manuel Pellegrini’s team, who are struggling to find themselves in a mixed season.
They do remain ninth in the table as it stands, but are going to need a mighty turnaround if they are to finish in seventh.
Some West Ham fans vented their anger towards Fredericks for his display in the game and he could defended a lot better against Hoilett.
Fredericks has had a mixed first year at the London Stadium, which has been disrupted by an ankle injury.
The 26-year-old has returned to the starting XI over the last month and on the main looked fairly decent, with the attacking side of his game strong because of his pace.
But the full-back has been caught out defensively a couple of times and senior option Pablo Zabaleta is his main competition for a starting position.
Here are some of the West Ham fans criticising Fredericks:
Worst performance I’ve seen for a long time, fredericks was awful! ?

Can’t be much worse than fredericks today, think he had a back injury so definitely would bring him in

Stupid statement from him, but today Fredericks was awful

Fredericks is at fault for both goals. The guy is quick and recovers well because of it but ask him to actually stop someone and hes lost. Who looked like the championship player today, him or hoilett?.

Fredericks shouldn’t play football anymore
— Son of a Gun (@Arnatoviic) March 9, 2019
Fredericks shouldn’t be near the staring eleven after that performance today

Ryan fredericks is not a premier league player.

Fredericks has made Hoilett and Niasse look like Ronaldo and Messi.
