West Ham fans react to their reported interest in Watford centre-back Craig Dawson

West Ham have been linked with defender Craig Dawson at Watford – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have reacted furiously to the speculation.

The Daily Mail reports that the Hammers are targeting the 30-year-old centre-back late in the summer transfer window and that he fits the profile of what manager David Moyes is looking for.

It is understood that they have turned attention to him after being priced out of a move for James Tarkowski  at Burnley.

Dawson is the latest centre-half to be linked with a possible move to the London Stadium this summer and there are just a few days left for the club to try conclude some business.

He is an experienced centre-back at top-flight level and strong in the air, but he was part of a Watford team that were relegated last season and he doesn’t have great pace.

A selection of West Ham supporters on social media are angry with the Dawson speculation, with one fan suggesting they are preparing for relegation this season.

It’s been a bleak summer for the club due to incidents like the sale of Grady Diangana and losing their opening two league matches, but they did sign right-back Vladimir Coufa on Friday and smashed Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-0 in their last match.
