Claret and Hugh have claimed that Tomas Soucek is being lined up as the next captain of West Ham United and their fans have been reacting to the news on Twitter.

The Czech Republic international is on loan at the Hammers from Slavia Prague. Providing the club stays in the Premier League, however, his move should become permanent.

West Ham paid £3.5 million to sign him on loan in January and will part with an additional £13.5 million to make it permanent (BBC Sport).

Soucek is currently nursing an injury and the break has come at an ideal time to allow him to recover.

He picked up the problem during a recent 3-2 defeat at Liverpool but during the four appearances he has played, he’s looked to have real quality.

Soucek boasts superb athleticism in the middle of the park and has provided the Hammers with something a little bit different.

Naturally, some West Ham supporters are surprised at this update regarding the captaincy.

Technically, Soucek isn’t the club’s player yet so it would seem odd to make such plans for him moving forward.

The vast majority seem happy though and here is a selection of tweets from the club’s supporters regarding Soucek.
