Liverpool are reportedly interested in a potential swoop for West Ham defender Issa Diop – but some Hammers fans have reacted on Twitter insisting they don’t want to let him go this month.
With the Reds suffering further injury problems in the heart of their defence, all eyes are on them to see if they sign a centre-half before Monday’s transfer deadline.
According to the Athletic, Liverpool could yet bring in a defender over the next few days, whether that be a permanent or loan deal.
It is explained that the Merseyside giants have made an enquiry to West Ham about their French centre-back Diop, who earns £67,000-a-week (Spotrac).
The report states that the Hammers would be unlikely to sanction a loan to Anfield unless it came with an obligation to buy, with the defender valued in excess of £20million.
A selection of West Ham supporters on social media believe that allowing Diop to leave would be a mistake.
The 6ft 4in powerhouse has been a real solid figure in the backline since he joined in 2018, but has slipped down the pecking order this season in David Moyes’ plans and made just five appearances across all competitions.
But that hasn’t stopped defending Premier League champions Liverpool make a move for him, albeit he’s one of a few targets mentioned.
There also appears to be real belief from West Ham fans that the 24-year-old can still improve massively.
Here are some Hammers fans discussing Diop:
If we loan or sell we will regret it

No no no….Liverpool are desperate for a defender, and it may sound mad but we are competing with Liverpool at the moment. Just like Chelsea won’t loan us one of their players because we are competing with them. Plus Diop is one for the future

We bought him for £22m. Should be selling for minimum of £30m https://t.co/lGmXhEkVMC

Mad to sell him.

Would personally love to see him stay. Its been a tough start for him, but has the potential to be a great defender

He has so much potential but hasn't been able to kick on. He just needs the right environment to develop a little bit more and he will flourish. I like Diop a lot.

Could see him turning into a beast at Liverpool tbf

Don't sell or loan him out.
