West Ham are keen on a swoop for free agent defender Gary Cahill, according to a report by the Daily Mail.
They report that the Hammers are in a transfer tussle with Crystal Palace and Burnley over the former Chelsea defender, who has been without a club since leaving Stamford Bridge this summer.
And Cahill has a wealth of experience, having won the Champions League in 2012 and winning 61 caps for England before his international retirement in 2018.
The Hammers had been starting to move away from signing ageing, expensive players, but Cahill is perhaps seen as solid backup to Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena.

But many West Ham fans took to Twitter to urge their club to land Cahill on a free, convinced by his experience, pedigree and the fact he’s a bargain.
Cahill is a proven Premier League player and that’s impressed the Hammers online, who do not seem to be concerned about the fact that the Englishman’s form has been gradually declining and that he couldn’t force himself into the Chelsea side very often at all last term.
