West Ham fans react to Maxi Gomez Tweet, after reported £29m bid accepted

Maxi Gomez has posted on Twitter after remaining an unused substitute in Uruguay’s 4-0 win over Ecuador in their Copa America opener on Sunday – and West Ham United fans have reacted.

Gomez, 22, watched from the substitute bench as Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani started up front for his country. Both strikers scored, as did midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro. Arturo Mina scored an own goal.

Sky Sports have claimed that West Ham have had a £29million bid accepted for the Celta Vigo striker, but La Liga side Valencia have also had the same eight-figure offer accepted.

Gomez posted on Twitter, congratulating his teammates after their excellent first performance in the Copa America as his focus lies on helping Uruguay win the tournament – rather than his club football.

West Ham currently have options up front in the form of Javier Hernandez, Marko Arnautovic and Michail Antonio, but the club need a goalscorer. The Hammers have also offloaded Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez.

Hammers fans took to Twitter to react to Gomez’s Tweet, with many urging the powerful striker to move to east London and choose claret and blue over a move to Valencia. One fan Tweeted, saying: “we need you”.
