Marcus Browne made his debut for Middlesborough on Friday night – and some West Ham fans responded on Twitter by stating they may have made a mistake in selling him.

The Hammers offloaded the 21-year-old this summer, as he moved to the Riverside on a permanent basis.

He is an attacking midfielder that made his Boro debut last night in a 3-3 draw away to Luton Town in the Championship.

The English playmaker came off the bench for the final 20 minutes and showed some neat touches in possession.

Browne is a product of the West Ham academy and has previously enjoyed loans at Wigan Athletic and Oxford United, before exiting on a permanent basis this summer.

A selection of West Ham supporters on social media enjoyed Browne’s cameo on his debut for Boro and feel he could be one that got away.

He impressed last season with Oxford in League One and is now looking to make the step up to the academy.

Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini does have academy graduate Declan Rice as a key player in his first-team and full-back Ben Johnson looks like the latest off that production line.
