West Ham’s season looked to be on the up when they defeated Manchester United 2-0 last month, but they have gone through a patchy run of form.
Saturday’s defeat to Everton saw Manuel Pellegrini’s side put in an abject performance and continue their inconsistency after that high-profile win.
That has seen some of the optimism slip away but the form of their young guns in the Under 23 setup has remained good, with Nathan Holland and Joe Powell leading the way.
And it was Powell who caught the eye in a 4-0 thrashing of Stoke’s age group side away from home last night, with a wonder strike.

He opened the scoring with a chip from long range after a mistake from the goalkeeper, displaying quality technique and huge confidence in the process.
With the first team struggling, many supporters on Twitter called for Powell to get his opportunity in the first team sooner rather than later.
West Ham aren’t short on quality but they need to raise their performance level from what it has fallen to since that United victory and perhaps Powell could help them do that if he got his chance…
