The big story of West Ham’s transfer window has been the future of Marko Arnautovic, with the Hammers talisman throwing a spanner in the works by having his head turned by the riches on offer in the Chinese Super League.
A player who appeared to be so full-blooded in his commitment to the club was prepared to leave them in the lurch mid-season in order to secure one final huge payout.
But the Hammers were unable to secure their asking price for Arnautovic, leaving Manuel Pellegrini with the task of reintegrating him back into the squad.
On the face of it, it appeared possible; Arnautovic could claim that he still cared for the club, it was just that an amazing financial opportunity came his way.

And his team-mates may understand that stance, but the saga is of such a nature that it leaves scars on a player’s relationship with the supporters.
So when Arnautovic was restored to the starting eleven for last night’s trip to Molineux to face Wolves, the Hammers supporters wanted to see plenty of evidence that the striker’s commitment to the cause was as strong as ever.
What they got was a limp performance, cut short early by an injury; Arnautovic limped off at 2-o in a match that ended up 3-0 to the hosts and it’s fair to say that the Irons faithful were not impressed at all…
