West Ham United are seemingly looking to kick into a higher gear after a quiet start to the transfer window, with the Daily Express reporting that the Hammers have made an enquiry for Mario Gotze.

David Moyes is yet to add a new face to his first-team ranks this summer. Tomas Soucek’s loan has been converted into a permanent deal, but the fans have not yet been able to celebrate a new addition.

But perhaps the 28-year-old World Cup winner could help change that.

The Daily Express reports that the Irons have made an enquiry for Gotze, who is also being tracked by Roma and Monaco.

Gotze is currently a free agent after leaving Borussia Dortmund this summer. His career has been incredibly turbulent, with his winner in Brazil coming just six years ago.

Health issues have plagued the attacking midfielder in the past. But Moyes is reportedly interested in bringing him to the London Stadium.

There does appear to be a little excitement about the reports on social media. Some West Ham fans would take him, especially if they have to replace any of their attacking players this summer.

However, plenty of supporters have suggested that they need to steer clear. He is surely going to be able to command an eye-watering wage. But there are doubts over whether he is still capable of getting near the level he was previously at earlier in his career.

Some have their doubts about how genuine the interest actually is. Unfortunately, it appears that several are hoping that there is little in the reports.

Here is how some of the fans have reacted to the reported interest in Gotze…
