A number of West Ham United fans have taken to Twitter to laud Angelo Ogbonna’s display as the Hammers played out a goalless draw with Southampton on Tuesday.

David Moyes’s men secured their third draw in four games at St Mary’s. Southampton did have the ball in the net during the first-half, but Danny Ings’s strike was ruled out for offside.

It was West Ham’s first clean sheet in more than a month. Craig Dawson was excellent on his Irons debut. But Ogbonna once again received a lot of praise on social media for his display in the stalemate.

The 32-year-old largely dealt with Ings superbly throughout the contest. The England striker had very little to work from during the game, and Ogbonna seemed to be a key reason for that.

As shown by Whoscored.com, Ogbonna made seven clearances during the game. No player on other side could match that tally. He also made one tackle, won one aerial duel and made one interception.

It was not exactly an evening that will live long in the memory for most West Ham fans. But plenty took to social media following the game to laud Ogbonna.

The defender has been outstanding for much of this season. And his performance against his debuting teammate has been noted by many supporters.

There is certainly an argument that Ogbonna – who earns £70,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – may be playing some of his best football for the club during this campaign.

With that in mind, here is how some of the fans reacted to the centre-back’s display…
