West Ham have been linked with a potential loan move for Manchester United defender Brandon Williams – but the transfer speculation has not gone down well with Hammers supporters on Twitter.

According to the Sun, West Ham are one of the clubs interested in signing the 20-year-old on loan when the summer transfer window opens.

The report explains that newly-promoted Norwich City and Premier League rivals Southampton are also admirers of the English full-back.

It is understood that he’d be a good fit at the London Stadium for David Moyes’ squad, as he’s shown he’s versatile enough to be effective at both left-back and right-back.

Williams is a youngster being tipped for a loan next season, but it’s worth noting he’s played 47 first-team games already for Man United since stepping up from their academy to senior level. It sounds like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side just want him to play more regularly elsewhere to aid his development.

A selection of West Ham supporters on social media have reacted negatively to the Williams links.

It’s a little odd given he’s a promising talent, plus they’ve benefited massively from signing Jesse Lingard in the second half of this season on loan from Man United.

However, Hammers fans have mentioned their versatile 21-year-old full-back Ben Johnson as someone who’s capable in their squad already.
