West Ham fans react as Patrick Vieira reportedly closes in on his first signing at Crystal Palace
Patrick Vieira is reportedly closing in on his first signing as Crystal Palace manager and it is a bit of a coup. The Eagles are set to sign Reading ace Michael Olise for £8million, and it has envious supporters casting the eye over the deal. West Ham fans have reacted to Palace closing in on Olise.
Olise, 19, has been in stunning form over the last 12 months – shining for the Royals during 2020-21. Not only did he net seven goals in 46 games, but Olise also laid on a solid tally of 12 assists. The Sun report that Palace have moved first, activating his £8million asking price ahead of a summer move.
The move sees Palace win the race for a young, English, Championship talent. Ebere Eze chose to join Palace from QPR last summer and has since impressed with the Eagles. West Ham are renowned for dipping into the Championship market to bolster their squad – have done so of late.
So, should West Ham fans be frustrated that their club are not in for Olise?
The Hammers need depth this summer. While the club have done superbly to get into the top six, and Europa League, they lack the depth required. Burnley and Wolves have recently experienced dropping off in the Premier League after qualifying for the Europa League. West Ham need additions.
£8million, plenty of resale value and time to grow, Olise would have been the perfect signing for West Ham. He would have been happy not to play every game, but offered quality when used. Little surprise, then, that West Ham fans are frustrated with Palace signing the London-born ace.
