West Ham have confirmed that Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper Darren Randolph has returned to the club from Championship outfit Middlesbrough.
Randolph departed in 2017 but David Moyes has brought the stopper back to east London amid a goalkeeping injury crisis and the awful form of Roberto.
The Irishman told the club’s official website: “I’m delighted to be back. I had two great years previously and still have a lot of friends here, so I had no hesitation coming back.
“West Ham is a massive club, with fantastic supporters and an excellent squad of players.
“It’s a great challenge for me and I am really looking forward to working with the goalkeepers here and helping the team in any way I can.
“This opportunity was simply too good to turn down. It’s a great feeling to be back in the Premier League with such a fantastic club, and I can’t wait to get started.”
But there are plenty of Hammers fans on Twitter who did not share Randolph’s enthusiasm at all.
Randolph has been brought back to the club because Lukasz Fabianski is embarking on his second spell on the sidelines already this season and Roberto has proved unable to deputise.
But Randolph has not played for Boro since November and his move back to the club was delayed because of concerns over his fitness.
Although the Hammers seem to be satisfied that he is fit enough to come in and make an impact, some supporters on Twitter are not convinced.
They wanted to see far more movement in the current window than an ageing former goalkeeper returning to the club.
We are pleased to confirm the signing of a player that was deemed not good enough, to join the manager we also previously deemed not good enough. He will immediately slot straight into the line up for the massage bed, good luck Darren.

Signing an injured player in a position with an injury crisis can’t get more West Ham than that.

That’s not Berge

I doubt a single West Ham supporter is pleased about this. He was worse than Adrian, who we let go for nothing. Wasn't good enough 2 years ago. Presumably he was cheap as payments from Boro outstanding. The club deserves to be relegated: the supporters don't.

He will start Everton and the get injured and subbed after 28 mins because he took a goal kick.

Yay, we've signed another injured keeper! This really sums up our transfer window so far #incompetantboard

@StevenMcCarthy9 I feel for Randy its not his fault & he was good servant why would he say no like Hugill.
But buying a GK who has the same injury that kept Fab & Martins out & couldn't pass meds seems mad. That £4m buys Kwateng RB DM & CB.
That said I hope stays fit & does well
