West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur star Eric Dier this summer as David Moyes looks to rival the Hammers’ biggest rivals – and supporters of the east London club have reacted in their drones on Twitter.

The Star have claimed in Sunday’s paper edition (back page, April 12) that Dier, 26, is being targeted by West Ham despite the rivalry between the two London clubs. He is set to enter the final 12 months of his £60,000-a-week contract (Spotrac).

With the likelihood that Dier could be available for a bargain fee this summer due to his contract situation, West Ham are keen to form a reunion between the former Sporting Lisbon star and Dier – who has 40 caps for England.

Indeed, Dier was loaned to Everton between January 2011 and the summer of 2012 as a teenager. Although Dier never made a senior outing for Everton, he was a regular in the club’s second string – and had a lasting effect on Moyes.

Eight years on, Moyes wants to lure Dier to the London Stadium with the Hammers in need of both a central defender and cover in the middle of the park. Dier is more than adept in both positions, and can also do a job at right-back.

However, West Ham fans are not impressed. The majority of supporters that reacted on Twitter claimed that their club can do better than signing Dier despite his experience for Spurs in the Champions League and Premier League.
