West Ham United have confirmed on their official website that DR Congo international Arthur Masuaku has signed a new contract at the club.
Masuaku has committed his future until 2024 and will once more battle Aaron Cresswell to be the Hammers’ first-choice left back this season.
He said: “I am very happy and very proud. For me it was an easy decision. The club wanted me to stay and so I didn’t even need to think about it – it was just a matter of time. Now I am looking forward to giving my all for this club I love.
“It hasn’t been an easy road for me since I first arrived but I have always been positive and the future is bright for West Ham, I am very excited, and happy to be a part of things here. The manager has been very good to me and I hope now I can repay his faith.”
But Masuaku is not the most popular player among the West Ham fanbase, because he is prone to lapses in concentration and can be something of a liability at left back.
Often, a player signing a new deal can create excitement but many Hammers on Twitter are not best pleased to see Masuaku tied to their club for another five years.
There’s a feeling he’s a winger by trade but with the quality Manuel Pellegrini can boast on the flanks, he’s unlikely to get into the side there so the Irons are best served hoping he can up his game in 2019/20…
Please learn how to defend x

He does one skill once, 2 seasons ago now, and that's it?! Needs to improve his game, cement his position at LB!

So, looks like Masuaku is a preferred left back this season!
Let's hope PM can jog his memory about defending, watching runners and marking people!

I’m sick of this myth that Masuaku is good going forward?! I’d love to know when his last assist or goal came? He’s pony

Still hate Masuaku even if he signed a new contract and ended the season well. First game of the season Silva will tear him apart and then people will regret praising him for a skill he did against Tottenham in January 2018
