West Ham United secured their place in the Europa League next season with a brilliant 3-0 win over Southampton in front of their own fans on Sunday afternoon – and Hammers fans have raved about Angelo Ogbonna’s display.

A quick-fire brace from Pablo Fornals saw West Ham take a commanding lead into the break. The first came in the form of a neatly-placed tap-in after a save from Alex McCarthy to give the Hammers the lead on 30 minutes.

His second came when Vladimir Coufal got down the right and crossed for Fornals to finish brilliantly, just three minutes later. It was three late on when West Ham hero Declan Rice broke free down the left, and finished superbly.

The win saw West Ham finish the season in sixth place, a brilliant campaign after a relegation battle just last term. It is difficult to find a player that endured a difficult season in West Ham colours – and Ogbonna is no different.

An ankle injury limited Italy international Ogbonna to 28 Premier League matches, but when fit, the 33-year-old has been first choice alongside Craig Dawson. In those 28 games, the £8m (Mail) star has helped keep nine clean sheets.

West Ham fans applauded the experienced defender after another commanding display from centre-back.
