Declan Rice completed 90 minutes during England’s midweek victory at Wembley against Iceland – and some West Ham fans on Twitter were delighted with his international performance.
The 21-year-old Hammers midfielder managed his first England goal by opening the scoring in a 4-0 victory over Iceland in the Nations League.
He got on the scoresheet with his first-half header as he glanced on a free-kick, while Mason Mount and Phil Foden (two) also found the back of the net for the Three Lions to secure a comprehensive win.
England dominated the possession with 78 per cent of the ball, which is why all of their players were kept extremely busy as they tried to move an organised Iceland side out of position with quick passes.
Rice, who sit as the deeper of a central midfield paring next to Mount, saw plenty of the ball during the contest and looked assured in his passing.
A selection of West Ham supporters on social media were left raving about the youngster’s display on the international stage.
He’s now returning to the London Stadium to prepare for an important Premier League fixture away to struggling Sheffield United on Sunday.
Here are some West Ham fans discussing Rice:
The best bit about Rice scoring and having another superb game for England is that he brings all that confidence and enthusiasm back into the West Ham squad and they all follow his lead and keep improving. He will eventually captain England, nailed on ⚒
