West Ham fans praise Declan Rice for performance against Liverpool

Declan Rice completed 90 minutes in West Ham’s home defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday night – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter did at least find some positive with his individual performance.

The Hammers remain just above the relegation places on goal difference after a 2-0 loss in the Premier League at the London Stadium.

Mohamed Salah and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored in each half to give Liverpool another three points, as they continue to race towards what is surely their first ever Premier League title.

David Moyes watched his team outclassed by their opponents, but there is no shame in that considering they are the Champions League holders and are 19 points clear at the top of the league.

But it’s alarming that West Ham are firmly in a relegation battle and do have a difficult fixture list ahead of them.

A selection of West Ham supporters on social media felt that Rice was at least one bright note from the midweek defeat and it’s been suggested that he’s too good for them.

The 21-year-old central midfielder put in a great shift with plenty of energy all over the park and he popped up with a couple of goalscoring opportunities.

He needs more help in the midfield rather than just ageing skipper Mark Noble and new January signing Tomas Soucek from Slavia Prague should help with that.

England international Rice is often left fighting a losing battle in the centre of the park, but there was no shame in his latest performance.
