The appointment of David Moyes for a second time may not have got pulses racing around West Ham but the first game of his new reign did.
Moyes’ Hammers swept aside relegation rivals Bournemouth 4-0 at the London Stadium yesterday, thanks to a double from Mark Noble and goals from Sebastien Haller and Felipe Anderson.
It was a crucial victory and offers West Ham a cushion of two points and two places to the drop zone as well as giving Moyes’ second spell a much-needed shot of optimism.
The challenge now is maintaining consistency but the fans were quick to praise one player they feel has been doing that even during the slump endured under Manuel Pellegrini.
Angelo Ogbonna got the plaudits after another strong performance, where he kept Callum Wilson quiet and marshalled the defence expertly.
The £10 million (Guardian) man showed his class once more and with Moyes likely to put more emphasis on defensive shape and organisation, he will be even more vital in the coming months.
If Ogbonna’s team-mates can find his consistency, the Hammers should guide themselves away from relegation danger. The attacking display may capture the headlines but the supporters know how good Ogbonna was at the back.

Didn’t put a foot wrong, read everything. If Balbuena is the General, Angelo is the commander in chief

Today he was incredible

Thought Ogbonna was excellent again yesterday, player of the year so far by a mile,he really has stepped up this year and has been one of our only consistent players.

Biggest win for about a decade and Jonty and I were there to witness it. Impressive performance with Nobes pulling the strings with Ogbonna and Rice imperious at the back. Definite Moyes-bounce. #COYI
