West Ham have announced their squad for a pre-season trip to China – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter mocked their lack of forward options.
The Hammers have confirmed (official Twitter) a 23-man travelling squad for the Asia Trophy, where they will face Manchester City before a final or third/fourth play-off match.
A selection of supporters on social media have immediately been drawn to the listed forward options.
Michail Antonio, Felip Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko and Javier Hernandez are named, but only the latter is a genuine centre-forward by trade.
The first trio are versatile wingers that can be deployed through the middle, but fans are hysterical that Hernandez is their only senior striker option.
Hernandez is an attacker that is most renowned for poaching goals in the penalty area and for his intelligent movement.
The 31-year-old Mexican scored eight goals in just 28 games across all competitions last season, but it looks like he could have more pressure on him for the new campaign.
Marko Arnautovic’s confirmed departure from the London Stadium has left a void in the final third, but there should be plenty of goals in the team with their attacking midfielders.
Here are some West Ham fans commenting on their forward options:
Nice way to pretend there’s some forwards at the club, just push the midfield up, no one will notice 😂😂

You seem to have accidentally included 3 midfielders in the Forwards section

Can’t believe we only have 2 forwards and one of them isn’t in the squad!

You know it’s bad when we have to include 3 wingers in the ‘forward’ section 😂
