West Ham fans in agreement with Bowen after Southampton draw
West Ham fans are in complete agreement with Jarrod Bowen.
The 24-year-old attacker spoke very well after his side’s 0-0 draw with Southampton despite it looking like a missed opportunity.
Bowen was clear when he spoke about the game (club website).
“It’s one of those afternoons where we had a lot of the ball, but ultimately in the final third – where we’ve been really good recently – we were a bit off today.”
“It’s another point in hopefully another successful season.”
Despite not being able to win the game, they didn’t lose it either.
The fans are much more understanding of this too, especially having seen just how strong their team can be.
It also must be stressed that West Ham’s schedule is a packed one this season.
David Moyes’ side face a Europa League campaign alongside the three domestic competitions.
With those extra fixtures and the congestion that comes with it, the fans are being more reasonable when their side suffer an off day.
“It’s disappointing, but when you’re not fully at it, keeping a clean sheet and getting a point away from home has to be looked at as a positive. It’s another point in hopefully another successful season.”— West Ham United (@WestHam) September 12, 2021
It must be said that the defensive shift put in by West Ham was a solid one.
Declan Rice cleared one off the line in the draw and the Irons were also let off the hook when Armando Broja hit the post.
At the other end, it was Bowen who came the closest to scoring when his left-footed volley was tipped over the bar.
The ex-Hull man is still chasing his first goal of the season, although he likely won’t have to wait too long.
In his first full season for the Hammers last year Bowen bagged eight goals and five assists (Transfermarkt).
The 24-year-old will, now be looking to top that and get himself double figures for goals, something the fans would absolutely love to see.
The supporters clearly have a lot of time for Bowen and you can see what they’ve had to say in response to his comments here:
Same result as last season, so we are still 3 points better off than last season!! COYI— Brett Sherwin (@oogle_bleh) September 12, 2021
Some wise words in there.— TheCam (@TheCam01491612) September 12, 2021
I think we’ll have a good season, too, but maybe narrowly miss out on Europe this time (I think Everton and Villa will slowly get some consistency.)
It’s sad that too many fans, with short memories, might see that as ‘failure’.

If you can’t win the game, the next step is to make sure you don’t lose. This squad is amazing, and has shown how well they can bounce back from a below par performance. It’s a massive compliment that oppo teams are starting a game trying to not to lose it to us— Ad Green (@AdGreen36029615) September 12, 2021

Owning a below par game is great 1st step
Enables 1 to go fix/address issues
great shout Bowen
We all have off days
It’s how 1 shows up & performs next time around that matters
Only 4 games in 7th
Europa & Mancs next
A good interview with Bowen he was one of the best players yesterday so well done to him.— Mary (@ZaynafamilyMary) September 12, 2021
I’m getting increasingly frustrated in the silence of Declan as captain. We have played 4 PL games now and not a peep out of him. Not a written reaction or a post match interview. Why?
