West Ham progressed through the Carabao Cup by beating Newport County on Tuesday night – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter picked out midfielder Carlos Sanchez for praise.
The Hammers secured a 2-0 away victory against the League Two outfit, who went into the contest unbeaten across all competitions this campaign.
Manuel Pellegrini made wholesale changes to his team, as he gave a number of West Ham’s fringe players the chance to impress.
Sanchez was drafted in for his first start of the new season and he completed 90 minutes in the centre of the park.
The 33-year-old defensive midfielder was fairly solid sitting in front of the back four and saw plenty of the ball.
West Ham progressed to the next round of the competition courtesy of goals from Jack Wilshere and Pablo Fornals.

A selection of West Ham supporters on social media hailed Sanchez for his individual display.
The Colombian enforcer looked calm in the midfield, albeit he was playing against League Two opposition.
It looks unlikely that he can break into Pellegrini’s XI on a permanent basis, but can be a useful weapon to have on the bench and it’s good that most of the squad got minutes under their belt in mid-week.
