After two abject performances and seven goals conceded in recent matches against AFC Wimbledon and Wolves, West Ham supporters could have been forgiven for approaching last night’s match against Liverpool more than a hint of trepidation.
A game against a title-chasing side would perhaps not have been what Manuel Pellegrini would have chosen for his side to get back on track, but his side rose to the occasion impressively.
Even Sadio Mane’s first half goal didn’t put the Hammers off their stride, they carried on battling and were deservedly rewarded with an equaliser by Michail Antonio after a smart set-piece routine flummoxed the visitors.
From there on out, West Ham showed the fighting spirit that has been missing in their past two matches, scrapping for every ball, keeping Liverpool to very few chances and countering impressively.

West Ham were so good on the break, led by the tireless running of Antonio, that they perhaps deserved all three points on the night, but a share of the spoils was just reward for an impressive performance of resilience and pace.
And Antonio was at the heart of much of it, which earned him warm praise from supporters who see a player who is now back to his best…
