West Ham will reportedly turn to Real Betis midfielder William Carvalho if they lose Declan Rice – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter would be keen to bring him to the London Stadium.
According to Estadio Deportivo, the Hammers would consider a move for the Portugal international this summer.
The report details that he could be targeted if West Ham lose Rice to interested suitors Manchester United.
The 27-year-old has been widely linked with a switch to the London Stadium in the past and once again is under consideration.
He’s a no-nonsense enforcer that usually sits in front of the back four and is excellent at breaking up play.
The defensive midfielder has a physical presence and has just enjoyed a strong individual campaign with Betis, while he’s also played for Sporting Lisbon in the past.
A selection of West Ham fans on social media feel that Carvalho would be a strong addition, but some have doubts over whether a deal can be wrapped up or not.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side do already have an excellent defensive midfielder in the shape of Declan Rice, but whether he will go to Manchester United remains to be seen.
Here are some of the West Ham fans commenting on Carvalho:
William Carvalho would be a great signing for the West Ham squad for next season; we mucked around with trying to sign him last time with no real intent on doing so so we need to get it done quickly and properly this time round, if so.

Betis picked him up for 26m last year? Would be the ideal DM partner for Rice. Would presumably mean giving up on Gomez for a Rondon but no bad thing imo. Would be a much stronger side.

Imagine Rice and Carvalho with Anderson, Fornals and Yarmolenko playing ahead of them. Would be an incredible midfield. Won’t happen, obvs, but what a thought
