As Premier League debuts go, Josh Maja had one to remember. His first ever start in England’s top flight came on Sunday evening and the ex-Sunderland striker scored a brace for Fulham against Everton – and West Ham fans have responded.

Fulham went into Sunday’s match at Goodison Park against an Everton side with their tails up, though Carlo Ancelotti’s team did have to play for 120 minutes to beat Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup during last Wednesday’s encounter.

It proved somewhat decisive, while Fulham looked good. Scott Parker’s men recorded just their third Premier League win of the season and secured a big step towards climbing out of the drop zone with a 2-0 win over the Toffees.

It was a former Toffee, in Ademola Lookman, that created the opener. Driving into the Everton box, his pass across the six-yard box found an onrushing Maja to slide home. A second came after Harrison Reed hammered an effort off the post.

With Robin Olsen sprawled on the deck, the rebound fell kindly for Fulham as Maja tapped home. It was only his second Premier League appearance and first start since joining Fulham on loan from Bordeaux – where he scored 11 in 48.

According to a report from L’Equipe, West Ham held talks to sign £10million-rated (Sun) Maja in the January transfer window and having scored a brace on his full Premier League debut – and Hammers fans have responded on Twitter.
