West Ham fans discuss performance of Nikola Vlasic during win over Manchester City
West Ham became the first team to defeat Manchester City in a Carabao Cup contest for over four years last night. The Hammers won on penalties with David Moyes’ men scoring all five of their spot-kicks.
A 0-0 draw had been played out at the London Stadium. That meant penalties and after winning the competition four years on the trot, a new name will be on the trophy this season.
It was a pretty strong side sent out by Moyes; although he did make some changes. In came Nikola Vlasic who earned another chance to star for West Ham after his summer move from CSKA Moscow.
The 24-year-old cost the club £25 million and he’s been slowly working his way up to scratch. He has tasted three appearances in the Premier League and another three in the Europa League since arriving.
The challenge for the Croatian is to now force his way into the reckoning on a more frequent basis. Last night he played for 62 minutes on the right-wing and he did his future chances no harm at all.
He was largely impressive against a strong City team and his substitution was probably more down to the shift he had put in.
What did West Ham fans say about Vlasic?
A quick look on Twitter after last night’s game and it seems as though the fan base are relatively happy about the Croatian’s performance level.
It was always going to be a tough outing for him against a team as useful as the Premier League champions.
He asserted himself very well during the time he was on the pitch and as a pretty experienced performer, he will hope to get more game time in the coming months.
Here is what the Hammers faithful had to say about the £70k-a-week player during last night’s game.
