West Ham fans discuss Issa Diop’s performance after Manchester United loss

West Ham suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday evening at Old Trafford in a heavy dent to their Champions League qualification hopes – but Hammers fans applauded the display of defender Issa Diop.

West Ham came into the match having beaten Leeds on Monday night 2-0, their hunt for a place in the top four still intact. A win against United would have really put them into contention, after Everton and Chelsea dropped points.

However, they were unable to do so. A defensive-looking line-up backfired on David Moyes, as his search for a win at Old Trafford – when travelling there as an opposing manager – goes on. Scott McTominay scored after the break.

West Ham, prided for their efficiency from set-pieces, conceded through a Craig Dawson own goal after a flick from Scott McTominay. The match resulted in a 1-0 win to United, despite West Ham improving.

Despite the defeat, many Hammers fans were impressed with the performance of  £67,000-a-week Diop (Spotrac). Combining with Craig Dawson once again in the absence of Angelo Ogbonna, the defender seemed solid.

Many took to Twitter to applaud the centre-back, who continues to make his case for a starting slot when Ogbonna does return to the fold. One fan labelled him a “future key part”.
