West Ham fans discuss Gerard Moreno, amid reports they are battling Newcastle for his signature
West Ham are reportedly looking to sign a striker this summer, and it is claimed that the Hammers are targeting Villarreal’s Gerard Moreno. The Spain international has clocked up 30 goals throughout the 2020-21 campaign, and West Ham fans are excited at Moreno joining the Hammers.
Moreno, 29, scored for Villarreal in the Europa League final against Manchester United. He also netted in the penalty shootout as Unai Emery’s side surprised many to beat Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s outfit. Not only has he proved a goal machine, he has also laid on 11 assists for Villarreal.
CalcioMercato have reported that West Ham are interested – but face competition from Newcastle and Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma. It remains to be seen how much Villarreal would want for Moreno – but it is likely to be an expensive figure. That is largely due to his brilliant 20-21 form.
Why do West Ham need Moreno?
West Ham could do with another striker, given that they failed to replace Seb Haller in January – with the Frenchman moving to Ajax. Michail Antonio remains the club’s only real option up top, though Jarrod Bowen and Andriy Yarmolenko can do a job. Youssef En-Nesyri is also a target.
West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to respond to the reports that the London side want to sign Moreno – a player that will represent Spain at Euro 2020 this summer. Many believe he would be an ideal signing.
