Report: Club think West Ham will scupper players’ development if they send them to London

West Ham are said to be looking into the possibility of signing both David Neres and Lassina Traore, but could face a last minute hurdle in any attempt they do make.

The Hammers are thought to be keen on adding attacking prowess to the squad if they can for the end of season run-in. David Moyes never got that January deal over the line he might have wanted, and many feel it has hindered the Hammers’ chances of landing a top four spot.

However, the Russian invasion of Ukraine has brought about a potential opportunity. Players in the Ukrainian league are allowed to move on temporary contracts. And The Sun has reported that both Neres and Traore are on West Ham’s wishlist.

But any hope Moyes has of landing the duo could be scuppered by Shakhtar. The Sun claims the Ukrainian giants are unsure if the Hammers will offer Traore and Neres regular game time. And with that, they’re said to be tentative towards letting both players go.

Moyes, then, could have some convincing to do if he is to land a late season boost.

There is no doubt that adding this pair would improve the West Ham squad. There is a risk that both would need time to get up to speed when they don’t really have that time. But there’s also the thought that this brings two fresh players into the mix at a time when others aren’t adding.

Shakhtar’s worry is that the players’ value decreases. That’s all well and good, but while they’re not playing at all, they’re arguably losing even more value. West Ham, then, could use that line to try and get a deal done here.
