West Ham: England international linked; Bilic reacts to Payet rumours; Calleri could depart
West Ham are believed to be at the front of a chasing pack who are increasing pressure on Liverpool to allow Daniel Sturridge to depart as the England international struggles for game time under Jurgen Klopp this campaign with Roberto Firmino dominating the Liverpool front line, claim the Mirror.
The Reds reportedly want at least £28 million for the 27-year-old who has frequently suffered from injuries in the past, but he is clearly one of the few players who could guarantee to bring goals to the London Stadium having proven himself at Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool.
Such a symbolic signing may be exactly the kind of move that the Hammers need to make should they fail to keep hold of their star man, Dimitri Payet. The Frenchman has refused to rule out a move away, but Slaven Bilic told the press:
“The Chairman came out and said during the Euros [that he was staying] when the speculation started. We are delighted to have him and he is our player. We want him to stay as our player. It would help us a lot if he could score another big goal against Tottenham on Saturday!”
The 29-year-old has been linked with a return to Marseille or a move to Paris Saint-Germain and scored for his country once again on international duty, but has notched just once in the Premier League for the Irons this campaign.
Malaga, Sevilla and Valencia are reportedly hoping to come to an agreement with the club in January which could see Jonathan Calleri cut short his loan deal to instead head to Spain, say Talksport. Deportivo Maldonado, his parent club, would be happy to reach such an agreement and have been disappointed by how he has adapted to Premier League life.
Calleri is yet to score for the club and his last outing was for the team’s under 23 side when he made an assist in a victory against West Brom under 23s almost three weeks ago.
