After a deal for Jermain Defoe had seemed dead in the water, it now seems that it could be back on. The Daily Mail now claim that West Ham could make a fresh bid for the Sunderland striker on one condition – that he requests a move away from the Stadium of Light.
The Black Cats have been hugely reluctant to allow him to leave and have barely entertained the idea of talks with the Hammers. Slaven Bilic is desperate to sign the former England international though and may try to encourage a move as much as possible.
The Daily Mail also claim that the club have made a breakthrough in talks for Brentford striker Scott Hogan, with a £9 million up-front fee agreed with somewhere between £3 million and £6 million set to come in add-ons if the 24-year-old performs well at the London Stadium.
The former Rochdale striker could now complete a move across London in the coming days with the Irons keen to tie up a deal to bring him to the club as quickly as possible with the side in desperate need of more attacking threat, something the in-form Hogan can offer.
One man who has helped on that front with some slowly improving performances is Sofiane Feghouli, and the Evening Standard claim that the club will reject overtures from Roma, who want to sign the winger on loan, until their is clarity on the future of Dimitri Payet.
Bosses do not want to allow the Algerian to leave if Payet has played his last game for the club, with Feghouli offering vital depth and an option out wide, where the Frenchman has largely been played this season. That means that a Feghouli exit this month seems unlikely despite struggling to settle in the first few months of his time in London.
