West Ham’s sensation Declan Rice has been crucial this season for Manuel Pellegrini’s side and his progress in the last year has been immense.

The 20-year-old defensive midfielder has managed to consolidate his spot in the starting XI and continues to go from strength to strength.

He could soon be part of a new-look combination with Manuel Lanzini, who is nearing his return from a long-term injury layout.

Pellegrini has confirmed (Sky Sports) that Lansing may return to the first-team squad on Friday night against Fulham, as he closes in on a first appearance of the season.

Rice’s progress has really gone up a notch this campaign and that has been without Lanzini.

But the pair should soon be part of the same midfield, which should bring a perfect balance of offence and defence.

Rice is a no-nonsense enforcer that breaks up play in front of the back four and is also extremely efficient in possession.

Meanwhile, creative midfielder Lanzini has proven in the past he’s an excellent goal threat and arguably the most technically gifted ace at the London Stadium.

West Ham may soon have a midfield partnership that is the envy of all Premier League teams outside the top six.

Both Rice and Lanzini have immense potential and quality, which is why it will be intriguing to see how they link up when the latter is back to full speed.
