West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini has insisted he has plenty of faith in summer signing Albian Ajeti, despite his lack of action for the club so far this season.
Speaking to Football.London after West Ham defeated Watford at the weekend he discussed the striker situation at West Ham in the summer.
He heaped praise on their big-money recruit Sebastien Haller but is also keen to make it clear that Ajeti is firmly in his plans.
“We have lost three strikers from last season with Lucas Perez, Andy Carroll ending his contract and Marko Arnautovic going to China.
“I worked with Mario Husillos to find a new striker, we had a lot of different names and finally we set for Haller. We have Albian Ajeti too, I trust him a lot.”
Ajeti might feel a little like the forgotten recruit compared to the arrival of Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt.
Signed from FC Basel in a deal reported (The Telegraph) to be worth around £8 million, he was a necessary arrival. West Ham lost Marko Arnautovic, Andy Carroll, Lucas Perez, and Jordan Hugill from their attack this summer.
Ajeti already had two goals from three appearances with Basel this season and scored 21 times for his club last season.
So there is clearly potential there, even if he is yet to get his West Ham chance. But with the Hammers in EFL Cup action at Newport County on Tuesday night, he might get his chance this week. The Swiss striker will hope to repay the trust of his manager if given a chance in South Wales.
