West Ham have suffered a blow in the race for Genoa’s prolific striker Krzysztof Piatek, according to Football Italia.
They report that the Hammers – who look set to lose Marko Arnautovic this month – are willing to pay the huge 40 million euro asking price to sign the Polish hitman.
But their hunt for Piatek has apparently hit something of a snag because AC Milan have first refusal on any potential deal for the striker.
As they are set to lose Gonzalo Higuain, Milan may want to spend big on Piatek to replace him, but the report also suggests that they may wait for Michy Batshuayi.

And if Chelsea and Milan decide to go through with their mutually beneficial striker loan swap between Batshuayi and Higuain, the coast would become clear for West Ham to sign Piatek.
But Milan could choose to take advantage of their position of power with regards the Pole and that would leave West Ham on the back foot in the chase for the man who has been scoring so prolifically this season, as they seek to replace Arnautovic.
He has 19 strikes across all competitions this term and the fact that West Ham are willing to pay his big asking price underlines how highly rated he is by those who matter at the London Stadium.
