TBR Football can exclusively confirm that West Ham were among the clubs who made an enquiry over signing a Champions League-winning captain earlier this summer, but the player is now set to join their London rivals.

West Ham are aiming to bolster their squad ahead of the new season following a difficult season. The club struggled under Julen Lopetegui, who was eventually sacked and replaced by Graham Potter.

Potter took the club to a 14th-place finish in the Premier League. However, he will now be looking at backing from club owners to take West Ham to a top-half finish.

Among the players he was keen on signing was former Liverpool star Jordan Henderson.

West Ham enquired but Jordan Henderson is set to join Brentford

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey can confirm that Henderson has agreed personal terms with Brentford and is set to join them this summer on a free transfer.

Sunderland showed interest in Henderson early on in the transfer window before opting to go in another direction.

The midfielder held talks with several clubs, and TBR Football can reveal that among the clubs who enquired about the Champions League-winning captain were West Ham, Fulham and Rangers. However, new manager Keith Andrews convinced Henderson to continue his career with Brentford.

Henderson will replace Christian Norgaard, who officially signed for Arsenal on Thursday. As per TBR Football, the 35-year-old will sign a two-year deal with the club.

Jordan Henderson set for key leadership role at Brentford after significant exits

Brentford’s decision to bring in Henderson is not just about adding experience on the pitch but also a leadership figure in the dressing room in what is expected to be a transitional period for the club following several key departures.

The most significant departure is Thomas Frank, who left with his staff to join Tottenham. Several key players are set to follow him, with Norgaard already joining the Gunners, Bryan Mbeumo expected to join Man United and Yoane Wissa linked with several Premier League clubs.

Norgaard had been a key figure for Brentford both as a holding midfielder and as club captain. His leadership, influence, and consistency were crucial for the Bees, and filling that void was always going to be a priority.
