West Ham United reportedly made an approach to sign Barcelona talent Ansu Fati in the summer.

The Guinea-Bissau born midfielder has proved a sensation at Barcelona so far this season. He recently became the youngest ever player to score a goal and provide an assist in the same La Liga game.

The 16-year-old is being considered as a future star already, despite his young age and being an unknown quantity before the start of this season.

However, West Ham knew all about him. According to Mundo Deportivo, the Hammers were keen on the player this summer.

West Ham, along with Real Madrid, Sevilla, and Nice, held talks with the player’s father as they tried to secure his services. However, Barcelona managed to convince him to remain with the club, Fati signing a new deal in July to remain at the Camp Nou.

Whilst it is a shame that West Ham did not manage to secure his services the fact they were in the running should be considered a real positive.

Not many clubs in England had Fati on their wishlist this summer so it again shows how much pull and influence the Hammers have in Spain thanks to their former Spanish-based director of football Mario Husillos.

Unfortunately, West Ham missed out on this wonderkid. However, they might snap up the next 16-year-old talent they unearth. If they do, West Ham fans will be very pleased with their recruitment process.
