With the January transfer window now finally heating up, it seems West Ham and Newcastle United could have eyes on the same player.
David Moyes’ West Ham side now seem close to finalising a deal for Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips, although they’re not done there.

And it certainly doesn’t need to be said that things are getting busy over at Newcastle.
The Kieran Trippier transfer saga will undoubtedly dominate the next few days, a move that would surely have a big ripple effect.
And speaking of ripple effects, Miguel Almiron’s potential move to Saudi Arabia could do the same.
All that considered, both West Ham and Newcastle are being credited with January interest in a winger who is looking to return to Europe.
At-Ittihad’s Jota is having a glum time with the club, having been left out of their playing squad this season.
And with the £192k-a-week winger reportedly on the move this month, both Premier League clubs are showing interest.
That information comes via Sport Lens, who also note that Al-Ittihad are PIF-owned, an interesting facet of Newcastle’s potential approach.
West Ham and Newcastle now keen on a January move for Jota
Jota is earning a big wage in Saudi Arabia after a £25m move, and its feels as if a move for a Premier League side would be a risk.
The winger excelled at Celtic but there’s no guarantee that means he’s ready for a top ten side in England.

Although the Portuguese forward would probably accept a wage cut as part of any deal, he still may not present great value.
From Newcastle’s perspective, it would be bold to suggest that Jota is an upgrade on Almiron for example.
That could well be the case, but it’s certainly not set in stone.
West Ham’s forward line is definitely in need of fresh faces this month, but again – would Jota be an upgrade on Maxwell Cornet?
It’s certainly one to ponder.
A January move to West Ham or Newcastle would certainly represent a good move for Jota, but it would be a risk for both clubs.
That being said, West Ham striker Michail Antonio has now been stunned by some news coming out of the club today.
