West Ham and Everton have reportedly ‘sounded out’ a move to sign Athletic Bilbao defender Unai Nunez with the centre-back keen on a loan move away from the Spanish club this summer – and both sets of fans have responded on Twitter.
Nunez, 23, was in and out of the Bilbao side despite having a hugely exciting reputation in his home country. Despite managing just 20 La Liga outings last term, he already has one Spain cap to his name and 77 Bilbao outings under his belt.
Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo stated that Nunez is keen to leave Bilbao on loan, though he has a release clause worth £27.5million in his current Bilbao contract. He has three years left on that deal, but a new deal has not been ruled out.
The report states that while Bilbao are reluctant to let him go, Nunez is keen to get game time on loan and both Everton and West Ham have ‘sounded out’ a potential move to lure the ball-playing centre-back to the Premier League.
West Ham are desperate to sign a centre-back with the Hammers reportedly having numerous bids rejected for Burnley stopper James Tarkowski. Everton, meanwhile, need cover given Mason Holgate, Yerry Mina and Michael Keane are their only options.
