West Ham are nearing closer and closer to completing a move for Jose Fonte in the next 24 hours after the Southampton central defender handed in a transfer request at St. Mary’s. The Evening Standard claim that the deal will cost the club around £8 million for the experienced 33-year-old.
Fonte, who was captain on the south coast, will add experience to the Hammers’ defence and is a proven Premier League talent. However, it may lead to doubts being raised about the future of the likes of James Collins, particularly with young Reece Oxford knocking on the door of the first team.
On a less positive note, the Croydon Advertiser claim that former manager Sam Allardyce, now in charge of Crystal Palace, is set to compete with the club for the signature of Scott Hogan. The Brentford striker has been a top target for the Irons this month and the club are said to be in talks over a move.
With 14 goals in 25 games so far this season in the Championship, it is clear to see why the two Premier League sides are looking to add the goalscorer as they look to add some firepower to help them climb up the table.
The Mirror report that Dimitri Payet is desperately pleading with the club to allow him to leave this month amid claims that he has told close friends that he would earn less money should he be able to complete a move to Marseille in Ligue Une as he insists the move is not motivated by financial factors.
Payet’s wife has returned to France and he believes that a move back to his native country is the only way to save his marriage, with the pair both believing that their three children should grow up in France.
