West Ham: £25million striker bid; Manchester United defeat reaction; top goalkeeper targeted

As Slaven Bilic continues to suffer a striker headache with a number of injuries affecting his players and form limiting the impact of those who are available, the Guardian claim that the club could make a move worth £25 million for Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson.

Eddie Howe dismissed the speculation linking him to Newcastle earlier this week but West Ham believe that they may be able to persuade the player to force through a move, given that the 24-year-old has already scored four Premier League goals in 12 games this campaign.

After falling to defeat in the EFL Cup quarter final to Manchester United at Old Trafford, Slaven Bilic conceded that his side deserved to lose as he said:

“We can’t have a slow start against them because they are very good when they are one up. They have those kind of players. After the slow start, we recovered and looked good but you can’t do the same. And we did. They totally deserved it then after that. You just can’t have that kind of a start in a game like this. They are really good on the counter attacks and all that but that happened to us in the first half and then we recovered and started to play after 25 minutes. They played with more energy and quality and a bit more passion.”

Ashley Fletcher’s first goal for the club on his return to his former club gave the Irons hope but the Red Devils came out stronger in the second half and blew Bilic’s team away with attacking prowess.

Adrian failed to convince on an opportunity for him to re-establish himself as a first team player, and scouts are reportedly tracking Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic as a replacement, say ESPN. The Bosnian is second choice behind Thibaut Courtois at Stamford Bridge but is keen on moving to a club where he would be first choice.

Begovic would be a good addition for the Hammers, particularly given his Premier League experience where he shot to fame at Stoke, and would bring quality to the West Ham defence.
