West Ham 1-5 Arsenal: Three things we learnt

West Ham’s defence leaves a lot to be desired

It is hard to think of a more shambolic defensive performance in the Premier League in recent years. Slaven Bilic had injuries to contend with which were only worsened when James Collins was forced off after just seven minutes to be replaced by Alvaro Arbeloa from the bench.

Arbeloa was woeful, being pulled and dragged all over the place by the movement of Arsenal’s attack, and Winston Reid and Angelo Ogbonna weren’t much better in the middle. Neither could handle Alexis Sanchez’s movement and with Mesut Ozil exploiting every space they left, there were few errors that went unpunished.

Arthur Masuaku was just as disappointing, being shown up by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain time and time again. Aaron Cresswell and Michail Antonio may fill in when they return from injury, and this is not a full strength West Ham defence, but Slaven Bilic will have to improve if his side are to start picking up results.
