Manchester United managed to make it six successive league victories as they overcame West Ham at the Olympic Stadium. It wasn’t their best performance over the six matches, but considering the hectic schedule, they will be pleased to have taken the points. They were playing against ten men for the majority of the match after an early decision was made to send off West Ham’s Sofiane Feghouli. It was highly controversial and provided United with the somewhat easier task of winning the match. Here are three things that we learnt on Monday.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is one of a kind
The Swede has played every minute of the last three matches and that is incredible given he is now 35-years-old. He has proven every one of his critics wrong and is now emerging as one of the best players in the league. It was always going to be fascinating to see how Ibrahimovic dealt with the Christmas period in England as it is unlike anything that he has had to deal with throughout his career, but he has done superbly. He has scored five goals and contributed three assists in his last five league matches. After a small blip, he is firing on all cylinders again and is helping United begin to build a top four challenge.
Although his goal on Monday should have been ruled out for offside, it was a powerful finish and displayed his qualities in front of goal. It is his fitness and athleticism that is most impressive as his performances have not declined despite the amount of football that he is being forced to play. His signing was questioned, but he has shown why nearly any side in the world would be lucky to have him, even at this stage of his career. It would be great to see him take Manchester United back into the Champions League and represent the Red Devils in the competition next year.
